Hi Dancers,

I am very excited to tell you that Hossam & Serena Ramzy are planning to bring their professional development course to Bathʼs Chapel Arts Centre, Lower Borough Walls, Bath, BA1 1QR.

The course will run over 12 months with 6 intensive sessions a year. Each class will include both drumming and dancing in order to fully connect with the rhythms and music. You will learn how to play simple Egyptian rhythms on the duf, study bellydance technique & choreography with Serena in order to help you develop your own individual expression.

TO BE ANNOUNCED

Introduction to drumming and basic music reading for drums. With home work of exercises drumming exercises.

This is done on duff. Not on Tablas.

Introduction to the basic principles of Musical Translations. Nay, Quanun, Accordion & Violin. Also, a start on the “Ya Hlewa” song from the “Best of Farid Al Atrash” CD.

TO BE ANNOUNCED

Review of the home work. Then start of drumming technique with the “Magnificent 7” and then to exercise # 2.

Completing of the “Ya Hlewa” song and then moving to the choreos from the “Visual Melodies” DVD.

TO BE ANNOUNCED

Review of the home work. Then intro to the “Silences” in reading then Exercise # 3.
Also, an introduction to the 1st tree of rhythm. “The Wahda Kebira” tree with seven rhythms.

Review of the home work. And further studies into the musical translations of soloists and orchestration. This will be done to a Golden Era Old Pop Song from Abdul Halim Hafiz.

TO BE ANNOUNCED

Review of the home work. More drumming and music reading. Then exercises 4 & 5. Introducing the drummers to the feel of rhythms and the way to move around a drum.  Plus the “Dom & Tack” exercise.

A drum solo choreo by Serena to be announced on the day as we have several in mind and depending on which one we have done recently in Barcelona.

Review of the home work. And an emphasis on the “Dom & Tack” exercise.
Then moving to playing the Saidi Rhythm.

An introduction to Saidi and a Saidi choreo by Serena to “Raqset El Assaya” from the “Best of Hossam Ramzy II” CD.

TO BE ANNOUNCED

Review of everything we have done and a learning of the “Hossam’s Madness” drum routine that will be performed in our graduation show.

A final classical choreography by Serena from the “Ruby” album.
Then a final home work which will incorporate all the dancing and all the drumming in the course.

COST: The fee for the course is £800 for the year and the fee can be paid in two instalments, the first by December 1, 2011 and the second payment by January 22, 2012.
